This piece on HuffPo ought to remind us all about why Bush/Cheney, et al, should be in jail this moment. “I was only following orders” is the resort of evil human beings who, faced with the true scope of their crimes, insist they couldn’t possibly be to blame. “Blame my bosses.”
Just as the defendants for whom the above notion is named could not explain away the bulldozed hundreds of skeletal bodies they saw preserved on film, neither can Bush/Cheney Inc. escape the fact that they disappeared individuals to “third-party” nations where they were tortured, some of them to death. They can’t escape Abu Ghirab, Blackwater (and vice versa), domestic wiretapping, crimes so serious that history will judge with particular harshness, I should think, the lot of us for what we did and did not do to at least point out that the country had gone horribly wrong.
Personally, and I know I’m only speaking for myself here, I want to see no-holds-barred investigations that lead wherever justice indicates. The Republican Party has no say in this; having chosen to abdicate any pretense of bipartisanship, they get to stand on the sidelines and watch the law take its natural course. Of course, some Democrats will wind up suffering as well, and that’s only right. I don’t give a damn about party affiliation; if you did it, you get it. No argument, no bullshit. There’s enough jail space for everybody, but it’s just important that we soon see the AG administer some long-overdue justice.
Cheney for President? Stop, you’re killing me. That’s too funny. Instead, a jailhouse for him and the rest. Now would not be too soon.
