Mary Biddinger is a friend of mine from the Bowling Green State University days (a place from which some of us, thankfully, have escaped); like many of us, she has to (somehow!) find time for her own writing, but no matter what, that keeps pulsing, an undeniable beat. I just wanted to link to a piece of hers that briefly touches on this idea; also, there are convenient links on that page to her published work, and I’m telling you: just read her poems, then go on and buy her book because by then you’ll simply want to. Honestly, BGSU’s seen a number of fine writers pass through those doors, and yeah, Mary’s completely within that tradition.
Cheers to them all. Every day represents another chance—like the next game, next race—so this is why I say to everyone who writes, never become downhearted about yourself or your work. If you’re breathing, you’re still playing.
So keep playing. Writing, after all, is still play.
