Bloomberg is reporting that Kim Jong Il has died. If true, well, doesn’t that add one more curious twist to the world we face come 2012? His son, Kim Jong Un, is an unknown quantity, and it does lead me to expect sabre-rattling at the least as the North reorganizes, which might be a euphemism for “as the bloodshed at the stop finally subsides.” It’s impossible to know, but in such a feudal society I expect the hierarchy to act accordingly. Meanwhile, the people of the North starve and die without the slightest help from above.
Mind you, I do not see his death as an occasion for sadness; rather, I worry about what will happen—cross-border incursions and the like—in the aftermath. Hang onto your coats and each other, folks. This could get ugly. Let’s hope it doesn’t.
