Writing From Here: Strange and Distant Beauty

That’s how I feel about writing from Venice Beach after two months. Back home in Toronto the kitties are all fine and it looks like that will continue. Thank God.

So tonight a new group of people have arrived—several from Germany, all pale and ridiculously fit, all the women looking like Uma Thurman crossed with Mary Hopkin.

I just wish the politics here were so friendly.

Now white folks want to start watching polling places in majority-black precincts. Really? Fuck them. Fuck Truethevote.

The Right has gone insane. They’ve been there awhile. Period.

But as to beauty….it hurts to see. It’s strange, distant, and deeply painful.
